Panel Members Urge Careers in Medicine At Student Conference

"Medicine seems to be losing some of its ability to attract students," Dr. Dana L. Farnsworth, Director of the University Health Services, indicated last night to an audience at the Career Conference panel discussion on "Medicine."

Farnsworth added, however, that although there are fewer applicants to medical schools now than a decade ago, 20 per cent of students graduating from the College desire to go to medical school. Of this number, 96 per cent gain admission to a medical college.

Speaking at the conference, Doctor Charles G. Child III, Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Tufts University School of Medicine, said that one of the most fascinating aspects of medicine is the broad area in which it may be practiced.

Ronald J. Messer 4M emphasized that the pre-medical student need not let financial worries jeopardize a medical education. Loans, scholarships, and jobs can supply ample funds to those in need of aid.
