Committee Seeks Coordination of Drama Schedule

The Drama Committee of the Student Council will propose that all drama groups of the College meet within two weeks after registration next Fall to establish a coordinated schedule for the year's productions, Daniel M. Fox '59, chairman of the Committee revealed yesterday.

"We want to prevent gluts like we had last weekend," Fox said. Lowell House and Winthrop House both staged productions during the period, and, in addition, an independent group presented King Lear.

According to Fox, the Student Council committee will request the president of the Harvard Dramatic Club to call the Fall meeting. Representatives of House drama groups and College-wide organizations would then work out a schedule for the year's productions that would prevent conflicts in presentation dates.

Scheduling of this type has been attempted unsuccessfully in the past. Fox blamed the earlier failures on the "short-sightedness" that marks Harvard dramatics. In January, the Inter-House Drama Committee tried to set up a schedule for Spring play activities in the Houses, but the conflicting productions of last weekend witness the shortcomings of this effort.

Fox and his committee will further suggest that the group which would be convened in the Fall meet at regular intervals through the year in order to amend the schedules when production difficulties necessitate changes in dates.
