To meet "the increasing demand for a better knowledge of the Middle East," the University will this summer offer intensive training in the modern languages of the area and additional courses on the peoples and their government.

The program is designed to serve the interests of a wide range of persons, from graduate students who seek to fulfill their language requirements to businessmen with interests in the area.

Under a five-year Ford Foundation grant, these courses were first given last year at Johns Hopkins. In subsequent summers they will be offered at Columbia, Michigan, and finally Princeton, which administers this program.
