Saltonstall Denounces 'Immature' Patriotism

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"The narrow patriotism of our age is dangerously close to leading us to national suicide," William G. Saltonstall '28, Headmaster of Phillips Exeter Academy and member of the Board of Overseers, told the Harvard World Federalists last night.

Speaking on the topic, "A Larger Patriotism," Saltonstall emphasized that patriotism should include not only love of one's own country but love of all humanity as well. The average American citizen has an immature attitude towards foreign affairs, he said, which allows him to see the world situation only from the point of view of his own country and prevents international understanding.
