Freshman Soccer Team Defeats Andover 2-1; Hime, Griffith Star

The freshman soccer team triumphed again yesterday, adding a fifth game to its winning streak by defeating Andover 2 to 1.

After giving up a goal in the first five minutes of play, the Crimson tightened its offense, and Andover never seriously threatened again in the first half. The score was made during a melee in front of the Yardlings' goal.

Harvard immediately began a sustained attack, and made its first score in the second period. Right wing Phil Hime set up the play by lobbing a corner kick into the penalty area. The Andover goalie attempted to punch the ball over the goal and out of bounds, but it went into the net.

In the third period, the Crimson launched another series of attacks, during which Ezra Griffith, center forward, took a pass on the 25-yard line behind both fullbacks, and dribbled in to score. The push was ably supported by John McGoldrick, inside right, and Gil Leaf, left wing.

The Crimson continued to control the ball in that period, but failed to capitalize on several chances to increase its lead. Andover took the initiative in the final quarter in a vain attempt to tie the game, but the freshmen defense proved too strong for them.

The team's hopes for the forthcoming game against Princeton have greatly increased after this mid-week victory. The Princeton contest will be held here at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
