LONDON, Nov. 4--British tennis fans were certain today that plans for an open tourney were approved Tuesday night at a secret meeting of Wimbledon officials.
There was no word from the officials themselves. But the Evening News and many of the officials favored the open meet, in which amateur and pro players would compete.
It was understood that the annual Wimbledon tourney, generally regarded as the unofficial world's championship, next summer would be amateur.
The All-England Club, which operates Wimbledon, refused to comment on the meeting but Col. Duncan Macaulay, its secretary, said that "our conclusions are being sent to the British Lawn Tennis Assn. and the international federation. They are the people to make any announcement.
Elder Wins Trophy
NEW YORK, Nov. 4--Jim Elder of Canada sped around the course in a faultless ride aboard Isgilde in 30.7 seconds and won the West Point Challenge Trophy as the national horse show began an eight-day run in Madison Square Garden.
