HSA Salaries Hit New Peak

The Harvard Student Agencies has paid about $38,000 in wages to student employees since September, Philippe M. Charat '60, treasurer of the HSA, announced yesterday. The entire amount paid out last year was less than $24,000.

Charat attributed the rise partly to this year's football concession, the first successfully operated by students, which provided students with $9000 in salaries. He added that the 26 agencies now owned by the HSA have greatly increased their efficiency and operations. "The improvement has resulted from the use of rigorous accounting methods and the training of a good supply of capable managers," Charat explained.

Dustin M. Burke '52, Director of Student Employment, yesterday suggested some possible lines of expansion which the HSA may pursue, including a summer caretaking agency for local homes which are vacant during the summer, a summer housepainting agency, and a furniture leasing operation.
