Harvard Undergraduate Teachers will expand its program next year to include the Boston Public School system, David M. Goldberg '59, organizer of HUT, said yesterday. HUT negotiations with city officials to "bring schools that are within walking or street-car distance from the College" into the program are now underway, he explained.
Other plans for HUT expansion include recruiting student teachers from the Law School, the School of Education, and the GSAS. Wellesley College students will also be asked to participate and teach in high schools in Needham, Lexington, and Wayland.
This year, HUT sent 8 students to Newton and Brookline High Schools. According to Goldberg, the Brookline school has expressed "extreme enthusiasm" and might consider subsidizing part of the HUT program next year. At present, PBH provides funds for transportation and publicity.
