Law School Appoints New Associate Dean

The Law School has named Andrew J. Casner, Weld Professor of Law, as the first Associate Dean to have specific responsibilities for the educational program of the school.

Part of Casner's new job will be to implement--when approved--a possibly extensive revision of the Law School program now under consideration by the Law Faculty.

Casner is chairman of the Committee on Legal Education, appointed two years ago to conduct an "extensive re-examination" of the teaching program at the School. The Law Faculty has been debating the committee's report since September in weekly sessions.

While Casner declined to discuss the specific content of the report, he explained that questions of a fundamental nature were under consideration. "Aspects of the report deal with the general objectives and goals of legal education," he noted.

"We have hopes that the consideration of the report will be completed some time this year," Casner said. The report will then take effect "as soon thereafter as is feasible."
