Hugh A. Stubbins has been named the architect for the new Medical School library. Mr. Stubbins, who also designed the Loeb Drama Center and the new MIT Student Housing project, said that he has not yet begun work on the library.
"This is going to be a prototype structure," Stubbins declared. "Nothing quite like it has ever been built before, and we won't be able to decide just how it has to be made until we know the exact needs of the facilities."
He noted that a report on the requirements of the new library was being prepared, but he was unsure when it would be completed. "Research is research, and this study is like any other--you can't be certain when it will be done."
