GEOLOGIST, ARCHITECT APPOINTED

Alan V. Jopling, a research geologist with the U. S. Geological Survey, has joined the Faculty as assistant professor of Geology.

Jopling has worked on the design and construction of irrigation works and airfields and has made studies of surface and ground water. He has also made geological studies for the oil industry, and is a consultant on building foundations. A native of Sydney, Australia, he taught geology for four years at New South Wales University of Technology (Australia) and for a year was seismologist with the Frontier Geophysical Co. of Alberta, Canada.

The Graduate School of Design announces the appointment of Charles W. Harris as associate professor of Landscape Architecture for two years, effective Feb. 2.

He served as an assistant professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois from 1953 to 1958, and at Harvard from 1958 to 1960.

At present, Harris is in Italy as Chief of the Landscape Section in the Rome Office of the Architects' Collaborative International, Ltd., in the building of the University of Baghdad, Iraq. Previously, he had been in private practice with landscape architectural firms.
