A 325-year tradition will be broken this June when College diplomas printed in English instead of the customary Latin, are distributed at Commencement. The new diplomas are the first of their kind in the history of the College, and have already been prepared.

According to David W. Bailey '21, Secretary to the Corporation, the change was first recommended by the Faculty, and then voted into effect by the Corporation. The proposed change was originally presented to the Faculty by President Pusey, Bailey said.

The switch was necessitated "to a large extent" by practical problems.
