Lacrosse Made A Major Sport

The Faculty Committee on Athletics has voted to make lacrosse a major sport. The notice came after several recommendations by the Undergraduate Athletic Council for a change is the sport's status.

Members of this spring's squad will benefit from the change by becoming eligible to receive the major "H." The '61 squad, one of the best since lacrosse began at Harvard in 1878, posted a record of 13 victories, one defeat and one tie.

"While the record of the team was not a consideration is the action of the committee, I am very pleased that the members of this year's team are to receive the major 'H.'" Thomas D. Bolles, Director of Athletics, commented.

The varsity was the New England champion and took second in the Ivy League behind Princeton, its only conqueror.
