Judson T. Shaplin, associate dean of the Graduate School of Education, has been appointed acting dean of the School, replacing Francis Keppel '38, President Pusey announced today.
The appointment will be effective immediately, since Keppel officially assumes the position of U.S. Commissioner of Education today.
Associate dean of the School since 1954, Shaplin has worked closely with Keppel in developing the School of Education as a leader in training and research for teaching. He has served also as director of Harvard's Master of Arts in Teaching Program.
The new acting dean has until now been director of the Harvard project for establishing the first comprehensive secondary school in the Western Region of Nigeria, which will open in January.
