It was an exciting three days for Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller of New York, even though he never could quite find the courage to face an eager pack of Boston reporters.

And though the academic life prevailed during three evening Godkin lectures at Sanders Theater, each day brought time for some quiet, but effective political activity.

On Thursday, Gov. Rockefeller joked with Gov. Volpe, and other, lesser Republican dignitaries at a reception given by the Harvard Young Republicans; and amidst the laughter he warned that "in this period of conflict in the world, the two party political system is the basic strength of democracy."
