Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
In two closely fought contests against Dartmouth, Crimson football teams recorded one victory and one defeat yesterday. The freshman squad, preserving an undefeated slate, marked their third victory of the season 27-20, while the JV's lost 14-7.
The freshmen took the lead from the outset, blocking a punt deep in Indian territory and recovering in the end zone. By the end of the third quarter, the Crimson had taken a precarious 21-20 lead.
With two minutes left in the game quarterback Ray Kubacki passed to Justin Hughes, who advanced to the Dartmouth two-yard line. On the next play Kuback scored to clinch victory.
The Crimson offense seemed to have gained a new confidence against Dartmouth. Quarterback Kubacki threw two touchdown passes to Hughes, and halfbacks Bobby Leo and Pat Conway were able to make consistent yardgage. On defense, newly-elected captain. Steve Diamond played well.
In contrast, the JV contest was full of disappointment. A fine contingent of capable sophomore backs turned in good performances. John McClusky, who directed the attack throughout most of the game, passed well, but Crimson receivers repeatedly dropped his aerials.
In the fourth quarter, with a one-point lead, Harvard seemed to be heading for the winning touchdown. Halfback Leo Swift took a pass from McClusky and weaved his way to the Dartmouth seven-yard line where he attempted a lateral. The lateral turned into a fumble, and Dartmouth took the ball 93 yards for eight points and victory.
