Coast Guard Sinks Crimson Yachtsmen

The Crimson sailing team lost its New England championship yesterday to an experienced Coast Guard Academy crew which came from behind in the last race to win.

After disposing of a weak Rhode Island University team in Saturday's semifinals, the sailors split the first four races of their best-of-seven series with Coast Guard Sunday. The Cadets won the fifth race to take the lead, and with darkness descending, meet officials decided to postpone the final races until yesterday.

The Crimson yachtsmen sailed their Tech dinghies into an early lead in the sixth race, but the Cadets came from behind to force their less experienced opponents into a series of tacking duels in the stretch. The veteran Coast Guard crews easily outmaneuvered their rivals in the light wind to win both the race and the championship.

The Crimson team winds up its season Dec. 7, when it goes to Washington to defend its Frostbite Regatta championship.
