Harlem's controversial clergyman-congressman, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., has agreed to appear at Harvard early next year.
The Harvard-Radcliffe Young Democrats announced yesterday that Powell, chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor, will speak before a Sanders Theatre audience on Jan. 10.
Powell's activities have been under special scrutiny since last spring when his use of government funds was questioned in the Congress. After an investigation of his trips to Europe, junkets to Puerto Rico, and consistent record of absenteeism, the House severly cut the budget for his committee. Powell in turn charged that the House action was directed at him because he was a Negro.
Tickets for the talk are on sale now at the Coop.
