Matmen to Battle Quakers

Undefeated captain Bob Kolodney and senior Fred Pereira were the only Crimson wrestlers able to manage individual victories Wednesday night as the varsity matmen bowed to Rutgers 23-8.

However, coach Bob Pickett has called the Scarlet Knights one of the East's two toughest teams, so the defeat has not dimmed Crimson hopes for their most successful season in many years.

The Crimson will see further action this Saturday at 3:30 when they host Penn in a match which could well determine second place in the Ivy League race. Undefeated Cornell is virtually certain to win its sixth championship in eight years, but Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, and Penn are all strong contenders for the runner-up position.

Last week Penn (1-1 in the League) beat the Tigers, while Harvard (1-1) edged the Lions, setting the stage for this weekend's crucial clash. Success could mean the matmen's only first division finish since the Ivy League was formally organized in 1956.

The health of sophomore Ben Brooks, who has missed the last two matches with a leg injury, could be the deciding factor in determining the meet's outcome. His return to the lineup in the 177 Ib. class would strengthen the Crimson there as well as permit Pereira to return to the 167 Ib. division where he wrestled earlier in the season.
