Council Will OK Self Destruction

A survey of HCUA representatives conducted last night indicates that the HCUA will probably approve tonight a constitutional revision that would set up a new two-body student government. The proposed draft, however, may not be accepted in its present form.

Most of the HCUA representatives polled favored the Council devision. Many, however, opposed the present plan which calls for the house committee chairmen to serve on the Harvard Undergraduate Council.

They feel that this plan would hurt the house by weakening the effectiveness of the committee chairman, who might not have time to serve both as committee chairmen and as members of the council.

If the HCUA accepts the new constitution, the plan will be presented for general approval in a college-wide referendum in January.

Supporters of the present plan believe that the committee chairmen could use their influential positions to make the HUC a more effective organization.
