Basketball Squad Chooses Leo Scully as '65 Captain

Leo J., Scully '65, of Quincy and Arlington, will captain Harvard's basketball team next winter.

Scully, a 6-1 regular guard for two season, took over as playmaker this year. As a sophomore he pumped in 205 points in 21 games for a 9.8 average: this year he scored 178 points and averaged 8.1.

He was instrumental in the early season surge which placed Harvard temporarily near the top of the Ivy League.

Perhaps Scully's biggest moment of this season came when Princeton's Ivy League champions invaded Cambridge. Scully drew the tough chore of guarding All-American Bill Bradley man-to-man.

Although the Tiger ace was four inches taller than the Crimson guard, Scully hounded him for the first half, yielding only four field goats. Bradley's scoring picked up when Harvard shifted to a zone in the second half, but Scully's 11 points helped Harvard to an 88-82 win.
