Burns Shatters Mark for 1000; Trackmen Win

Sophomore Trey Burns smashed the University record in the 1000-yard run to lead the track team to a 85-24 win at Dartmouth Saturday. The time, 2:10.9, broke the mark set by Ed Meehan in 1964 by 0:00.7.

Burns also ran a 1:54.5 lead-off leg in the two-mile relay to spark what looked like another record-breaking performance. The quartet had a shot at the Harvard mark of 7:47.1, but Frank Haggerty, the anchor-man, wore himself out too early and jogged home with a 2:02 to round out a 7:54.1 effort.

Jim Baker won the mile (4:17.4) and two-mile (9:27.8) to become the day's only double winner. Chris Pardee cleared 6 ft., 8 in. to set a meet and Dartmouth Fieldhouse record.

Wayne Andersen scored his first dash victory since the holidays with a 0:05.6 clocking in the 50-yard dash. Carter Lord gave the Crimson its first win in the shot put all season with a 48 ft., 9 in. heave.

The day's big upset came in the 60-yard high hurdles where Dartmouth sophomore Gordon Rule nosed out defending Heptagonal champion Tony Lynch. The winning time was 0:07.5.
