To the Editor of the CRIMSON:

The Executive Committee of the Harvard Republican Club is delighted to announce that for once it has found a source of agreement with the Executive Board of the Harvard-Radcliffe Young Democrats Club. Our opposite members are contemplating the formation of a campus group to oppose the reelection of Lyndon Johnson next year. Quoting the YDs' current Young-Man-Iin-A-Hurry, Steven J. Kelman '70, "The entire executive board wants to dump Johnson. We believe that the membership feels the same way . . ."

Much as the Bibilical father forgiving the prodigal son despite his many sins, we nonetheless welcome our new-found allies into the fraternity which was not at any time beguiled or bedazzled by Lyndon Johnson. We are happy to say that we shall not only "Declare against Johnson" in 1968, we declared against him in 1964, we declared against him in 1960, and some of us (Texas variety) even declared against him before that. If our new colleagues actually once believed LBJ to be "Best for the USA," we cannot condemn for lack of foresight; poor judgment, perhaps. But now that they have finally awakened to the ugly reality their own party flung on us all, we must forget the past and act in a spirit of consensus. Jay B. Stephens '68   President, Harvard-Radcliffe Young Republicans
