Track Men Confront Weaker B.U. Tonight

The Harvard track team, riding high after Saturday's impressive victory over West Point, hosts B.U. in Briggs Cage tonight.

The Crimson should win easily over the predictably weaker Terrier team. Last year's trackmen thrashed B.U. 78-26.

Terrier coach Bill Smith has good cause to bewail the lack of depth on his team. B.U.'s only standout performer is Dave Hemery, the East's finest hurdler. Hemery is the current IC4A record-holder in the indoor and outdoor high hurdles.

Unfortunately for Smith, Hemery will probably not even run in the 40-yard high hurdles tonight. Plagued by a leg injury which has persisted since last season, it is doubtful that he will risk irritating the injury on the hurdle course.

Hemery should be an entry in the 600 yard run, however, and may anchor B.U.'s mile relay team. In both events he will be a threat.

The Terriers have two good performers in events where Harvard is weak. Sprinter Dick Farley will be strong in the 40-yard dash. Farley, who captained the Terrier football team, is B.U.'s record-holder in the triple jump. He will race another football player, the Crimson's Bill Cobb, who came up with a surprise win against Army Saturday.

In the high jump, B.U. will send sophomore John Winskowicz against Harvard sophomore Jim Coleman. Winskowicz has a 6'7" jump to his credit; Coleman's best is 6'4".

In addition to the regular B.U. Harvard dual meet events tonight, Coach Bill McCurdy has set up special invitational events in the mile, 600, high hurdles, dash, 1000, two-mile, and mile relay. In these events, runners from Boston College have been invited to compete against the Crimson and Terrier track teams.

Tonight's meet is Harvard's last before the Christmas recess. The track will have nearly a one-month lay-off before their next dual meet against Northeastern on January 16.
