Window Shop Offers $350 Yearly To Bolster Education For Action

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Education for Action, which has been struggling with financial difficulties, will receive aid from an unexpected source: the Window Shop.

The Brattle Street restaurant, bakery, gift shop, and self-supporting philanthropy will provide about $350 to allow a Cliffie to do social service work this summer.

The student, who will be selected by the Window Shop from two or three nominated by EFA, will bear the title of Margaret Earhart Smith Scholar, in honor of the first president of the Window Shop, a Radcliffe Trustee.

Inspire Others

Mrs. Norman Dahl, President of the Window Shop, said that she hopes the grant "will inspire people with money to make similar bequests to EFA." She said the Window Shop will finance the scholarship annually as long as EFA needs the funds.

The Window Shop was looking for an appropriate way to honor Mrs. Smith when Mary I. Bunting, President of Radcliffe, suggested the grant to Education for Action, Mrs. Dahl said.

Work

The EFA program provides course work and extracurricular studies in social service during the academic year. Started at Mrs. Bunting's suggestion, the program is sponsored by the Radcliffe Government Association and Phillips Brooks House.

Nearly 150 students have applied to EFA for financial assistance to carry out projects this coming summer.

The Window Shop was founded in 1939 to assist European refugees. It now helps new immigrants find employment and provides scholarship funds.
