Leverett Eleven Overtakes Lowell; Gonzalez Leads Quincy to Victory

Leverett's undefeated touch football team rallied for three second-half touchdowns to overcome a stubborn Lowell House team, 25-19, last Wednesday and retain its first place tie with Quincy.

Lowell rolled to a 19-7 halftime lead as Vaho Rebassoo ran for one touchdown and threw for another. Leverett's quarterback Mike MacNamara and flankerback Joe O'Donnell combined on a pass for the winning touchdown on the next-to-last play of the game.

Split end Fernando Gonzalez caught two scoring passes to help Quincy to its 27-20 triumph over a tough Dunster team. The winning tally, a short pass from Kenny Sandler to Tommy Harris, came with on three plays left and broke a 20-20 tie.

Dudley, with an explosive attack attack featuring halfback Tom Berner and quarterback Steve Wimberly, demolished Eliot, 48-6, Tuesday. In their season finale two days later, the Commuters were not nearly as impressive--they lost to Kirkland by forfeit.

Winthrop maintained its strong hold on the league cellar by losing to Adams and Lowell. Lowell's defense was outstanding, scoring three touchdowns in a 35-6 slaughter of Winthrop.

Eliot Keeps Soccer Lead

Eliot's soccer team remained in first place as a second-half outburst carried the Jumbos to a 3-1 decision over Dudley. No one was able to score in the first two periods, but the arrival of former Master John H. Finley Jr. '25 between the halves inspired the Eliot forces to three third-period goals.

Leverett is still in hot pursuit of the league leaders. The Bunnies edged Lowell, 1-0, as sophomore sensation Bob Litt scored the only goal. Leverett deserves credit for holding Lowell standout Hammy Clark, who has scored eight goals already, scoreless.

Chico Aquino and Michelle Jean-Baptiste paced Quincy's soccer attack as Quincy rolled up 5-1 victories over both Dudley and Dunster last week to move from seventh to third place.

Today's Quincy-Leverett touch football contest and Thursday's Eliot-Leverett soccer game highlight this week's activity. Leverett still leads overall with 27 points to Eliot's 23, while sports experts continue to express shock over Winthrop's dismal showing and extreme disapproval of Adams' first-place standing in tackle football.
