Parietals Up For College, Grad Schools

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

As expected, the Faculty unanimously approved yesterday the Committee on Houses' recommendation for increased parietal hours.

At the same time, graduate students who live in Harvard dormitories were voted what Dean J. Petersen Elder called their first parietal increase "since Noah."

It was quite some increase too. From spartan hours of 5 to 7 on weekdays the grad students have been boosted to 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The brief non-parietal interlude each day is necessary, Dean Ford said, to comply with laws of the Commonwealth and zoning regulations.

The new hours for undergraduates will be:

In the Houses:

Monday-Friday: 2 p.m. to midnight

Saturday: 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. to midnight

In Freshman dormitories:

Monday-Thursday: 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Friday & Saturday: noon to midnight

Sunday: noon to 8 p.m.
