Five, Six, Grapplers Have a Big Weekend

The Harvard basketball team resumes its drive toward the Ivy League first division at the IAB this weekend, meeting title contender Princeton Friday night and Pennsylvania Saturday. Both games begin at 8 p.m.

Crimson coach Bob Harrison kept the team practicing throughout the exam period, something of an innovation for Harvard basketball. He reports the team fit and eager, ready to meet the crucial weekend.

In its first Ivy games, Harvard lost to both the Tigers and the Quakers, but from here, it seems a sure bet that the Crimson will avenge at least one and possibly both of those losses.

Princeton took advantage of fouls for its win. Harvard's Ernie Hardy and Chris Gallagher--the top rebounders--each got three personals early. After that, the Tigers' victory was almost inevitable. Chris Thomford, Geoff Petrie, and John Hummer lead the Tigers who are undefeated in League play.

Pennsylvania used the shooting of guards Steve Bilsky and Dave Wohl to beat Harvard. Both scored in the 20's, nullifying the best effort of Gallagher's varsity career. Harvard almost certainly will attempt to pressure the two guards and force them into bad shots.

Harvard's home schedule has been bizarre. The first home game came during Thanksgiving and the second on the last day before Christmas vacation. The third game was late in Reading Period and now these two key games during intersession. So far Harvard has not lost at the IAB.
