HUC and SFAC Designate Spokesmen to the Faculty

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The leaders of HUC and SFAC have chosen their representatives to attend Tuesday's Faculty meeting on ROTC, but Kenneth M. Kaufman '69, of the HRPC, is still deciding on his group's spokesmen and will announce them today.

Dean Ford had specified that the Harvard Undergraduate Council, the Student-Faculty Advisory Council, and the Harvard-Radcliffe Policy Committee would be allowed three student representatives each to be chosen at the discretion of the group leaders.

On Jan. 28, the three students leaders sent a letter to Dean Ford emphasizing that their choices were "not intended to set a precedent for future student participation in Faculty meetings." The letter stated that it would be appropriate to include students in the actual decision-making and expressed hope that "this concept would receive serious consideration by the Faculty."

Stephen H. Kaplan '69, president of HUC, announced that he would attend the Faculty meeting along with Lance E. Lindblom '70, who had dropped out of ROTC, and John T. McLoughlin Jr. '70, a member of ROTC.

Kenneth M. Glazier '69, chairman of the Student-Faculty Advisory Council, had previously announced the SFAC representatives as Katherine A. Kaufer '69, an SDS member, Roger D. K. Thomas, a fifth-year graduate student in Geology, and Alexander Keyssar '69.

Straw Poll

Glazier said that he conducted a straw poll among SFAC members in order to choose the representatives for the Faculty meeting. He added that he tried to get SFAC members' views of ROTC ranging from support of the SFAC resolution (denying ROTC academic credit, academic appointments, and free space) to the Hilary Putnam resolution (severing ROTC from the University).

Kaufman said that he is trying to choose HRPC members who have been the most active in the deliberation of the ROTC issue. He added that he also is concerned that the different views which have been expressed by his committee be represented at the Faculty meeting.
