Yardling Golfers Beat Engineers; Baseball Team Plays First Game

Harvard's freshman squad opens its season and an important threegame week today when it encounters M.I.T. at 3 p.m. at the Engineer's Field. Two earlier Scheduled meetings with Exeter and Andover were rained out.

This year's Yardling team has the dubious honor of following in the steps of Harvard's greatest freshman nine. Last season's squad went undefeated. Coach Kenneth Klug said, "We have the talent to win every ball game this year, too. It's a short season with fourteen games in just four weeks, so crazy things could happen, but we have a good all-around hitting team."

Second baseman Vince McGugan leads the Yardling batting attck. Supporting him are captain Tim Bilodeau and catcher John Murray, a Boston College High School star.

The inclement weather has thrown off Klug's rotation of pitchers, so he has decided to start John Lund against the Techmen.

George Crace, the most experienced hurler on the mound staff, will be first reliever in the bullpen and will also start Saturday's game against the University of New Hampshire. The final pitcher on Klug's starting trio is righthander Jerry Fruetel. He is scheduled to begin tomorrow's home game with the Boston University Terriers.
