Crimson Booters Will Face Brown Today in NCAA New England Final

Harvard's varsity soccer team, having completed its regular season with a perfect 11-0 record and a second consecutive Ivy title, faces Brown at 1:30 p. m. today on the Business School field in the finals of the NCAA New England regionals.

Tickets for the NCAA game will be available at the gate for $1.

Last Tuesday Harvard walloped Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 6-0, and Brown edged Middlebury, 1-0, to create today's rematch of two Ivy contenders. In an earlier contest this Fall. Harvard beat Brown, 2-1, in a closely fought match.

The winner of today's game will advance to the NCAA quarterfinals against Hartwick College in Oneonta. New York, on Saturday, Hartwick won its district championship on Saturday with a solid 6-1 victory over Columbia.

No Strategy Changes

Harvard coach Bruce Munro is not planning any strategy changes from the first Brown game. "We've got to score more goals." Munro said, "and the only way we'll do that is to perfect the game we usually play."

Charlie Thomas, Norrie Harrower, and Chris Wilmot all missed practice Sunday morning because of minor injuries sustained in Friday's 1-0 victory over Yale, but Munro expects each player to start today.

According to the predetermined rotation of goalies. Shep Messing will play the entire game against Brown.

Brown needed a fluke goal against Middlebury to reach the finals. Fullback Chip Young fired a direct kick wide of the net in the second period, but the ball hit a Middlebury fullback and deflected into the net.

In its previous loss to Harvard, the Bruins dominated the fourth period of the game and several times came close to tying the match.

Other Regional Finale

Three other NCAA regions are playing their final rounds this afternoon. At University Park, Pa., Penn State (9-2) is hosting Philadelphia Textile (16-0), ranked fourth in the nation, in the Mid-Atlantic finals.

Penn State, rated first in the region by the selection committee, advanced to the finals by beating Delaware, 3-1, while Philadelphia Textile eliminated Penn with a 2-1 victory.

In the Southern playoffs. Navy (9-1-1) is hosting Howard (9-0-1) in the regional finals. Howard reached the finals by upsetting Maryland, 2-0, and Navy edged Southern Florida by two corner-kicks in a 0-0 tie. The winner of the Mid-Atlantic finals will face the champion of the Southern playoffs for a berth in the NCAA semifinals.

At Edwardsville, Ill., site of the championship rounds this year, host Southern Illinois is meeting defending champion St. Louis in the Mid-West regional final. Southern Illinois crushed Cleveland State, 6-0, in the opening round, and St. Louis had no trouble eliminating Akron, 7-0.
