"Eric has been a starter since freshman year when he earned his position through his enormous work rate at midfield. Because of his determination speed, and particularly because of his tenacious tackling skill, he is the most effective man-to-man marker on the team.

"Throughout his Yale career Eric was never outspoken, but rather played his position with quiet dedication and played it consistently well. It was for this reason that he was elected captain. The most effective leaders are those who inspire through their example rather than by their words and Eric is such a leader."
