Blood Drive Nets A Record Amount

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Harvard Blood Drives collected a record number of pints of blood last week in its semi-annual campaign.

"The 1430 pints of blood that we collected will amount to over 15 per cent of all the blood collected this year in Cambridge," said Robert S. Collins '72, co-chairman of the drive. The 1430 pints break the old record set last year of 1198 pints, he said.

"All last week large numbers of people came to Memorial Hall to donate blood. Yesterday, over 320 people gave, again setting a new record," he said.

Collins said that because of the interest of the Harvard community, the drive would be expanded next year. "I was sorry that there were such long lines," he said. "I hope that in the next drive we can have a 50 per cent increase in beds from the Red Cross to accomodate people more quickly."

Because of the blood drive, member of the Harvard community and their immediate families can get unlimited free blood should they need it.
