Dover Is Ready For Celtics Bid

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dale Dover, picked in the tenth round of the NBA draft by the Boston Celtics, said he'll "definitely make an all-out attempt" to secure a place on the team when the rookie training camp opens this summer at Camp Milbrook in nearby Marshfield.

"I'd sure like to make the team, although it's going to be difficult," said the 6' 2" senior guard and captain of this year's Crimson squad. "They usually don't look past the first two or three draft picks, so the work is going to be cut out for me."

'A Good Look'

Celtic coach Tom Heinsohn said that the coaches will "take a very good look at Dover. We've heard a lot of good things about him this past season. As far as I'm concerned, the guard position is wide open, and Dover is in the running."

Among Dover's attributes, Heinsohn cited his "team leadership, his quickness, and his fierce competitiveness" as the talents that impressed him. Commenting on Dover's supposed lack of shooting touch, Heinsohn said, "The kid shoots well enough for the pros."

Dover said he was "very pleased to be drafted," but he had thought that he would be picked up by the San Diego Rockets. "I met Alex Hannum last summer in basketball camp. He seemed interested in me, and I presumed that I would go with them," Dover said.

In the event he doesn't make the Celtics, Dover is hoping to arrange a try-out with the rival ABA. "I know a man in New York who is now talking with the New York Nets," he said. "He seemed sure that I would be able to try-out with them."

In the meantime, Dover has been working out in the IAB daily trying to improve his game. "With Jo-Jo White, Don Chaney and Rex Morgan as my competition, I've got to be at my best," he said. "You can be sure that I'm working on my outside shot."
