Crimson Faces Engineers In GBL Game Here Today

Taking a breather from Eastern League competition, the Harvard baseball team returns to play in the Greater Boston League against M. I. T. at 3 p. m. today at Soldiers' Field.

The Crimson, owners of a 5-1 Eastern League mark and a 12-2 overall record, is currently 1-0 in the Greater Boston race by virtue of a 16-0 rout of Boston College last week.

Big Innings

M. I. T. comes into today's game with a mediocre 3-7 record (1-2 in the GBL). A young team comprised mainly of sophomores and juniors, the Engineers have been plagued by the big inning. Losses to Middlebury (7-5) and Tufts (6-1) last week both resulted from the opposition scoring all its runs in one inning.

Al Dopfel, M. I. T.'s leading pitcher, is scheduled to start against Harvard today. The junior right-hander has compiled a 2-2 record thus far and owns a 2.66 ERA. One of his victories came last week against Boston University, as he fashioned a five-hitter en route to a 5-2 decision.

Aside from his mound duties, Dopfel also plays the outfield and leads the Engineers in hitting. Dopfel is batting 366 and leads the team in doubles with seven.

The Engineers are exceptionally strong up the middle. Shortstop Ken Weisshaar is second in hitting with 318 and very steady defensively. His fielding mate, second baseman Rich Roy-an anemic batter-is being touted as the best fielding second baseman in the school's history.

Bob Dresser, the only senior on the team, was a GBL all-star centerfielder last year, but he has gotten off to a slow start this spring. In ten games so far, he has batted 225.
