A bomb threat torced Lamont Library to close for approximately five hours Wednesday afternoon.
"A man with an accent telephoned the Harvard operator and said a bomb was to go off in Lamont. The operator informed the University Police who in turn contacted us at about 12:50 p.m.," Richard Dardy, administrative assistant for Lamont Library, said yesterday.
The University Police, following normal procedure, informed the Cambridge fire and police departments of the bomb threat.
Although searchers failed to find the bomb, Theodore G. Alevizos, librarian of Lamont, decided in favor of shutting the building until 5 p.m.
The threat marked the third bomb scare at Lamont Library this semester.
