Sanctuary Rents Space To Continue Counseling

Sanctuary, whose hostel on Mt. Auburn St. was gutted by fire last month, has taken space temporarily in a building at 1278 Mass Ave in order to continue its counseling program. "We have a hotline and administrative offices, but no hostel service at this point," Richard Clairmont, assistant director of community relations for Sanctuary, said yesterday.

Sanctuary is continuing its search for a temporary site for a hostel. "There is a possibility of additional space we may be able to sublet from the University in the same general area as the Iroquois Club," John R. Marquand, Allston Burr Senior Tutor in Dudley House and chairman of the board of Sanctuary, said last night.

The renovation of Sanctuary's burned out home, which until last year was occupied by the Iroquois Club and is presently owned by the University, will cost Harvard "something in the general neighborhood of $40,000 to $50,000," Henry H. Cutler '29, University real estate manager, said yesterday.

"We have an insurance on the building which we hope will cover the greater part of the costs," Cutler said.

Charles Daly, vice president for Government and Community Affairs, said yesterday that "it will take about eight weeks to have it fixed. We are anxious to have them back as soon as possible."
