Crimson Cagers Hit Road Against Weak Ivy Teams

Sporting an 8-7 record, Harvard's basketball team journeys to Cornell and Columbia this weekend in an effort to fatten its 1-2 Ivy mark against some unquestionably poor competition.

Of the two opponents awaiting coach Bob Harrison's squad, Columbia, the Crimson's Saturday foe, will offer the most resistance before rolling over. The Lions under coach Jack Rohan are 4-11 for the season and 2-2 in the league. Needless to say, the two loop victories came at the expense of Cornell in back-to-back Ivy games last week, 68-59 at Columbia and 66-62 at Cornell.

So far this season, Bob Evans has been the big gun for the Lions. He scored 17 and 26 points respectively in the two contests against the Big Red.

Other key players for Rohan are guards John Burnes and Brian McAuliffe, and center Steve Pellino, who has been performing admirably in the absence of last season's regular Foley Jones, who has been bothered so far this year by repeated foot injuries.

Last year the Crimson scored two two-point victories over the Lions, 102-100 in two overtimes and 86-84 in the second game in Cambridge.

Friday night in Ithaca, Harvard should have little trouble disposing of a truly weak team. The Big Red is 0-4 in the Ivy League and has already notched a league record this season.

In a dubious distinction gained three weeks ago. Cornell was part of a league record as Brown broke the all-time mark for most field goals scored in a single game. The Bruins threw in a mighty 47 field goals over the non-existent Big Red defense.
