B-School Parking Cut by 60 Per Cent

Sixty per cent of last year's 840 undergraduate parking spaces at the Business School have been eliminated this year due to the construction of a parking garage and married student housing.

Samuel Gilfix, head of the University's parking office, said yesterday all 333 remaining parking spaces already have been assigned to students. The parking office has created a waiting list for sign-ups in the event of cancellations, although Gilfax said few students cancel during the school year.

The parking office is considering an oversubscription plan similar to the one in use for the commuter lot at the Business School. The plan would mean selling more spaces than are available to insure the most efficient use of space, Gilfix said. The number of spaces oversold would be less than 10 per cent of the lot's capacity.

Gilfax said different driving patterns of commuters and undergraduates have been considered in devising the over-subscription plan. He said he had reservations about the plan.

A decision about the plan will be made next week, Gilfix said.
