'Cliffe Cagers Rout Newton College

By Audrey H. Ingber

The Radcliffe basketball team, returning to its home court after a discouraging weekend at the Princeton Ivy League Tournament, came up with a spectacular 74-7 victory last night against Newton College.

The 'Cliffe Cagers worked an aggressive defense at the opening, forcing their opponents to turn over the ball repeatedly. Limiting the Newton team to only outside shots and then monopolizing the boards for the rebounds, they held their opponents scoreless for the first ten minutes of play.

The 'Cliffe's offense worked smoothly as it moved the ball quickly and found the open player for successful shooting.

With the score 35-3 at the half, Coach John McCarthy substituted junior varsity players, since Newton brought only one team. The second string held the visitors to only one basket.

The high scorers on the Radcliffe team were Lissa Muscatine and Cheryl Gelzer, who put in 12 points each. Close behind was Captain Jeannie Guyton with 11 points, who also sparked the team with nine rebounds.
