J.V. Icemen Score Easy Win

Harvard's forgotten J.V. hockey team yesterday recorded its tenth victory of the year, a 10-6 whipping of the Carlings, a local club hockey squad.

The Crimson's Gordie Scannel opened the scoring parade at 1:58 of the first stanza, whipping a five-footer by the Carling goalie after taking a pass from Brad Wilson. Defenseman Larry Piatelli made it 2-0 two minutes later, with an assist going to Peter Owen on the play.

With two minutes left in the period after Tim Taylor of the Carlings had tallied twice, the Crimson's Craig Thomas scored an unassisted goal on a rebound of his own shot to send the team to the second period with a 3-2 edge.

The next twenty minutes saw the Harvard squad gradually take over, as Fred Paul collected a power-play goal at 4:50, and John Aiken deflected in a drive by John Waldstein 20 seconds later.

Graham Holmes and Brad Wilson also added markers later in the period to make the score 7-5, as the Crimson gradually started to pull away from the tiring Carling skaters.

The third period was all Harvard. Waldstein got things moving early, as he fired in a 40-foot bullet at 1:51, and Thomas followed quickly with his second tally of the night to put the game away.
