Clifton Will Be Alumni Funds' Exec. Director

By Margaret A. Shapiro

Peter F. Clifton '49 will become the new executive director of the Harvard College Fund subject to the approval of the Board of Overseers.

Clifton will leave his position as headmaster of the Green Vale Country Day School to take the Harvard post, Chase N. Peterson '52, vice president for alumni affairs and development, said yesterday.

Clifton is succeeding Schuyler Hollingsworth '40, who is to become the new recording secretary for the University, on July 1.

Peterson, who led the search to find Hollingsworth's successor, said, "An outsider was chosen to bring a fresh perspective into the Fund."

Successful Fund-Raiser

"We chose Clifton because he was highly recommended by Harvard alumni and his associates." Peterson also said that Clifton has been involved in education for many years and has been a successful fund-raiser as headmaster.

In addition to the two personnel changes, Peterson yesterday announced plans to move the recording secretary's office to Cambridge from Boston "so that geographically, it will be combined with the College Fund."

"Communications between the two offices are not as good as they could be. The move to Holyoke Center will make receiving funds more closely identified with seeking funds," he said.

Peterson said that donations are solicited by the Fund staff in Cambridge but are received by the recording secretary in Boston. "The people in the two offices should have more contact with each other than they now do," he said.
