Tsitsos Leads the White Team To a 27-6 Intersquad Victory

The white team, led by the heroics of senior halfback Alky Tsitsos, defeated the red team, 27-6, in a Harvard intra-squad scrimmage held yesterday at Soldiers Field.

The red team, composed of the second team offense and the first team defense, scored first when junior Jim Presley hit Jim Curry on an 18-yard touchdown pass. Curry, a sophomore, missed the kick for the point after.

Bill Emper put the white team on the scoreboard late in the second quarter when he took a punt 97 yards for six points. The whites, composed of the first offense and the second defense, had threatened earlier, but halfback Ed Cronin was stopped on the six-inch line on a fourth down.

The white squad scored three more touchdowns in the scrimmage, largely on the efforts of the fleet-footed Tsitsos. He scored on a 3-yard dive and on a 48-yard run. He set up the other touchdown play, a 1-yard plunge by Ed Cronin, with a 57-yard screen pass from Milt Holt.

Holt, the heralded senior quarterback from Hawaii, had a good day in the air. He completed over 50 per cent of his passes including three to his favorite target, Pat McInally. Holt, however, had some trouble handling the ball.

McInally caught every pass that was thrown to him and took two aerials for good gains. He also handled the punting and kicking-off chores for the white team. He may be relieved of the punting assignment, however, since Curry connected on several long, spiraling kicks in the scrimmage; two of which went for over 50 yards.

Some noticeable absences from the scrimmage were captain Brian Hehir, out with a bad knee, and Eric Kurzweil, a starting linebacker, sidelined with a sore rib cage. Also missing were fullback Neal Miller and tight end Peter Curtin. All but Curtin should be ready by the Holy Cross game.

One player who was absent and won't be back is junior halfback Burrelle Duvauchelle. He was tenth in the nation last year in kick-off returns. Duvauchelle is taking the year off so he can pick bananas in Guatemala. He should be back for the 1975 season.

Tsitsos, Tommy Winn, and Doug Quimby, all halfbacks, are possibilities to take over the kick-off return duties.

Even without Duvauchelle the offense should be the strong suit of the club. The defense will look better with the return of Kurzweil at linebacker. If the Crimson can avoid any more injuries it may bring in a stronger team than people expect to the season opener against Holy Cross a week from tomorrow.
