Barrington Moore Cancels Courses Due to Bad Back

By Andrew Multer

A recurring back problem which flared up last week has caused Barrington J. Moore Jr., senior lecturer on Sociology and Senior Research Fellow of the Harvard Russian Research Center to cancel his fall term courses, his secretary said Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Sociology Department said the University will waive the usual ten-dollar late course change fee for students in Moore's Government 128 and Sociology 152 classes.

University policy when a professor falls ill is generally to find a replacement, if possible, for the interim period. However, because of the specialized nature of Moore's courses, they cannot be continued without him.

Betty Moore, Moore's wife, said Wednesday evening that he will probably return to teaching in the spring term and that he "should be around the Yard within a short time."
