Governor Michael S. Dukakis will nominate Ruth I. Abrams '53 as an associate justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Court, the Associated Press reported yesterday. Abrams, a Law School graduate, would be the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court in its 196-year history.

Abrams, now a Superior Court justice, will fill the vacancy left by retiring Judge Paul C. Rodgers '32 who has served on the court for the past 14 years. Abrams' nomination must be approved by the Executive Council. Dukakis will formally present the nomination to the Executive Council December 28.
