Brown University is still considering three candidates for president, but none of them are associated with Harvard, a spokesman for the Brown presidential search committee said Tuesday.

Vernon Alden, chairman of the committee, said the group is "not considering anybody who is currently working at Harvard." He added that the panel is now in the final stages of interviewing candidates for the position and expects to announce its choice by the middle of March.

Last November, when the search committee narrowed the field to 35, several people from Harvard were still "in the running," Alden said. However, he refused to identify them or explain why they were eliminated.

The committee is looking for a replacement for Donald F. Hornig'40, who will retire at the end of this year.
