'Substantial Cash'

By William S. Ferguson

Five men held up Philip B. Gerdner '76 Thursday night as he was walking home from work.

Gardner said yesterday that he was walking past Leverett House around midnight when a passing car stopped and a man got out.

The man pulled a gun and with four others who came out of the car ordered Gardner to empty his pockets. Gardner had recently been paid and was carrying a "substantial" amount of money.

Gardner said that several people were passing by while this was going on, and none of them made any attempt to help or call the police until after the robbers had left.
