The national trend of declining SAT scores does not seem to be affecting the Harvard-Radcliffe applicant pool, William R. Fitzsimmons, director of admissions at Harvard and Radcliffe colleges, said yesterday.

In a study released this week, researchers at the University of Chicago attributed the decline to a wider choice of electives and a "decrease in the basics in high school curriculums."

Fitzsimmons feels that the "students here are better off for having had a wide range of options."

President Horner, a member of the College Entrance Examination Board's panel studying declining test scores, said yesterday, the psychometric, the social and the psychological aspects of the tests are being examined.

"Everything from food additives to broken families to faults in the tests themselves has been suggested," Horner said.
