Radcliffe Teams Split Holiday Contests

It didn't take the Radcliffe tennis team very long to recover from the 8-1 bite the Yale Bulldogs gave it on Saturday, as it easily munched on a weak team from Connecticut College yesterday, 7-2.

Although without the services of number one player Denise Thal, the women in white made their presence felt, rebounding for their fifth win of the season.

Freshman Sally Roberts filled the top spot admirably, waxing Ann Caputi, 6-1, 6-2. Lissa Muscatine, although playing without her contacts, blinded Hilary Henderson, 7-6, 6-4. Rita Funara also had an easy time handling Sarah Burchenel, 6-3, 6-2.

An Unavoided Default

Diana Olney at number four had an unfortunate day. After winning a tight first set, 7-5, she was forced to default late in the second set because of nagging back problems. However, sophomore Ann Kaufman registered a spine-tingling 6-1, 6-3, triumph at number five, and Kathy Fulton rounded out the singles matches in style with a 6-2, 6-3 drubbing of Ann Garrison.

Luckily for the Connecticut women, darkness set in early and the contestants were forced to play only ten-game pro sets in the doubles matches. A brisk wind helped the Crimson to sail away with an easy victory, as Roberts and Funara won, 10-3, and Muscatine and Fulton aced, 10-2. Olney's back caused her default a second time in the number three doubles tilt to round out the score at 7-2.
