Newton Teacher Garners Laurels In Poetry Contest

A Newton school teacher has won the poetry contest sponsored by the summer School Dean's Office after the judges completed their evaluations of close to 30 entries last week.

The $50 first prize in the contest, which was open to "all regular Summer School students", went to John Hildebidle, whose poem is entitled "The City is a Shrub of Wonders."

Hildebidle attended the New England Family History Seminar held in connection with the Summer School. The Summer School Dean's Office did not, however, have any information available on the seminar.

The $20 second prize went to Askold Melnyczvk for his poem, "Dear Liv Ullman, I Hope You Are Never Unhappy."

An honorable mention went to Laurie I. Braunstein for her poem, "After Reading the Odyssey."

On August ll, beginning at 8 p.m., all entries will be publicly read at Dudley House's Senior Common Room. The event was organized by a Summer School Student, Gery Pagenstecher, with the cooperation of the Dean's Office.
